There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall gambling is against the law. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling hall, features 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that highlights numerous conveniences on top of the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 table games.
