Mozambique Casinos

[ English ]

The relative lack in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in one sense rather baffling, in one way or another.

In years gone by, the country was a place where many South Africans would vacation to disappear from the especially restricted protocols on wagering (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. As a result, you might anticipate a picture of a booming industry to satisfy that tourist business.

At the same time, perhaps it is not much of a surprise. The country is certainly the most destitute over the world, having gone through a horrifying civil war (followed by damaging floods) from which it is still, very slowly, rebounding. This is liable to make a region much less of a travel focal point, as much as there is now a developing setting along various of the region’s beautiful beaches.

It is also true that regionally at least, casinos in Mozambique have had to compete with many others in the newly liberalized South Africa, inclusive of the exemplary Sun City founded by the Kerzner family corporation.

Here’s a list of Mozambique’s casinos:

Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel

There are 78 slot machines and video poker games, 5 tables of American roulette, 4 blackjack tables, along with one poker table.

Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino

There are forty slot machines, American roulette, as well as 2 tables for poker as well as punto banco.

It is thought that over time the entire tourism business in Mozambique will progress adequately. While the local languages are, naturally, African, there is additionally the remnant of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the new and expanding awakening of English, both from South Africa and as part of the global phenomenon. The country is extremely cheap (naturally, as it is so poor) and as above, has some of the most captivating beaches worldwide, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the combination of assets that make tourism officials drool, and as the country climbs out of its arrived at slump, it is likely that not only will tourism boost, but that the list of Mozambique’s casinos will grow longer also.

While the country is not expected to ever replenish its distinction as a target for partying South Africans, as there are now other choices closer to home for them to relish in, the expansion of a long distance tourism industry is being outlined. This would be to oblige Europeans looking forward to winter sun, as a retreat from the dullness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. Additionally, to top it off, the finest prawns (shrimp) across the globe are just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
