Cambodia Gambling Halls

There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is banned. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are supposedly required to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slots and sixty tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel building that contains numerous amenities on top of the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
