There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is banned. Eight casinos are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, features 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel complex that highlights a number of comforts accompanying the gambling den, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
